Our prototype lantern for the high pavement braved the rain and gales last night to show how the high pavement could look with gas light replica lanterns installed:
The high pavement in Sydney Buildings was lit by gas lamps in about 1820.
The lanterns alternated between a round teardrop design and a square design. A replica round design exists and could be used.
In order to examine feasibility of restoring this area we have commissioned a sample square lantern that matches early Bath examples:
